Litchfield Park is a small city in Maricopa county in the US state of Arizona. It occupies a total area of around 3.1 square miles, all of which is dry land. It is home to a population of over 5,500 - a rich composition of people of different races and ethnicities.
The town was named after its founder, Paul Weeks Litchfields, who came to the Phoenix area of Arizona back in 1916 in search of farming land. He was an executive at the Goodyear Tyre and Rubber Company and was in search of land suitable for growing long staple cotton. This was needed to strengthen the rubber in Goodyear’s Pneumatic tyres. Goodyear was the world’s largest producers of such tyres at the time.
In 1926, the United States Postal service official gave their consent to name the town 'Litchfield Park'. Until then, it had only been referred to as Litchfield's Ranch.
The entire area is mainly dry land. However, residents always look forward to a number of exciting annual festivals and events. These also serve as the city’s main tourist attractions.
